Description

THE FRESHIES / CHRIS SIEVEY - THE LAST FRESHIES MAIL-OUT (UK, FEBRUARY-MARCH 1982) Original and very rare 1982 memorabilia item by the great Manchester artist Chris Sievey and his band The Freshies - a pioneer of DIY punk movement and composer of some of the greatest powerpop songs of the late '70s and early '80s - later known by his Frank Sidebottom persona. This is the last of his standard Freshies mail-order newsletters as Chris Sievey informs his fans that the band will not continue together and he will start a solo career while at the same time announcing the launch of 'The Whispering Campaigner' as the new mail-out system (see green A5 slip). In the main A4 newsletter Chris Sievey explains that "the recession finally caught up with us and we are on the verge of bankruptcy, we have failed to secure a deal with anyone etc .... so we now join the unemployed.." "So that's it then as far as the Freshies goes.. it's been great fun and I wouldn't have had it happen any other way..a big THANKS.." and signed "Chris Sievey, see you and thanks (the Whispering Campaign starts here..") Plus list of all the Razz catalogue "EVERYTHING MUST GO .. CLOSING DOWN SALE" with all the Razz releases, cassettes and videos that were available at the time. Plus an additional green A5 flyer announcing the 'Whispering Campaign' new mail-out system (which was actually titled 'Whispering Campaigner'.
